About bebopbeads

I fell in love with freeform beading after many years of dabbling with all manner of media. My fascination with seed beads goes back to my childhood. My mom, a Cub Scout den mother, started me on a bead loom when I was about 8, so coming back to seed beads was like coming home. You can find more of my work at http://bebopbeads.artfire.com

Day 20 More Cellini

I’ve fallen so seriously behind I’m not even going to TRY to catch up. I’ve continued to play around with the Cellini spiral. I couldn’t make this piece do what I had in mind, so I started twisting and folding

Day 13 – Cellini, take two

This is a much more successful flat Cellini spiral. The pattern that goes about halfway across and stops isn’t a mistake. It’s an experiment to try to bring some freeform element into the beading. I’m kinda liking it.

Day 12 – Flat spiral

Playing around with a beadweaving stitch called flat Cellini spiral. I don’t think I’ve got the progression of the different size beads right. I’ll probably take it apart and try again.

Day 9 – Teeny graphed tubes

I have some beading friends who do amazingly complex graphed beadweaving. I am the freeform queen, so patterns are…a challenge. Nonetheless, I’ve had some ideas bouncing around in my head for designs incorporating graphed tubes. The first challenge was making

Day 8 – Another mold-making attempt

This one is made with Sculpey Moldmaker, so I need to bake it. However, the quality of the impression looks really good.

Day 7 – Duct Tape Folder

I made a duct tape mini folder to hold some things that need to be kept together but keep getting separated in my purse. It fits perfectly! I’m going to live with it for a few days before I decide

Day 6 – More with the cat faces

I rubbed some color onto the dried Paperclay cat faces. (I used eyeshadow.) It really highlights how deformed the mold got when I pressed the clay into it. New molds are on the agenda.

Day 3 – Silicon molds, part deux

Tonight I used Paperclay with the silicon molds I made on Saturday. I think I may try the mold making process again. One thing I figured out is that if the mold itself isn’t very thick, it’s easy to deform

Day 2 – Yoga Mat Bag

I’ve been wanting to make a bag for my yoga mat, so I did. (I did not make the cat, but you know how it is if you put something on the floor and there’s a cat in the room…)

YAY! I was so bummed because I couldn’t find TAD 2014! I’m ready to roll!

Day 27 – Tiny earrings

I’ve been making lots of spiral beads for the past few days, but I haven’t been posting them. As TAD is winding to a close, I thought I should do something new. This is a pair of very small earrings.

Day 24 – More beaded beads

One show down, and I got my first acceptance of the season, so let the inventory-building begin. During show season, I always feel like I’m on the verge of not having enough stuff, so this year I’ve set goals

Day 22 — Let’s go on with the show

First art show the season, so this is going to have to be my thing today. It is a new set-up, with a few new twists to the display, so I say it counts!

Day 19 – A Pair and a Half

I got one pair of earrings done and then pooped out before I got the second earring of the second pair started. [Scarlett] I’ll think about it tomorrow! Tomorrow is another day! [/Scarlett]

Day 18 – Beaded Bezel

I really hate doing open-backed beaded bezels. I probably wouldn’t hate them so much if I worked with things that were regular in shape, but these pieces of glass never are. Nonetheless, this one cried out for an open-backed bezel.

Day 17 – Emerald Pendant

Back to the Pantone “Color of the Year” – emerald. The photos don’t do justice to the piece of glass. It has a some opalescence that is very hard to capture. This one is about 2″ long.

Day 16 – Itty-bitty Pendant 2

I tried a different approach with this pendant. The piece of glass I used is the triangular one in the middle of the grouping. It’s about an inch on its longest side. I wanted more of a cage effect

Day 15 – Itty-bitty pendant

For several years, I have been using cullet fron Fenton Art Glass in my beadwork. Sometimes I add a beadwoven bezel around the larger pieces. Sometimes, I kind of enrobe glass (that I’ve tumbled in a rock tumbler) in freeform

I’ve fallen down on the job the last couple of days. My excuse for yesterday was working a bead show — 10 straight hours of standing on a concrete floor. I was pretty pooped when I got home. Anyhoo, I’m

Day 7 – Beaded Beads

Here’s a pair of beaded beads that will become earrings. For all you beadweaving fans out there who are following along at home, this is spiral odd-count peyote. The beads are a little less than an inch long.

Day 6 – Valentines

I’m working on some Valentines for a Valentine exchange. I was kind of uninspired, and then I remembered I had a funky piece of collage that I had made this summer while teaching a “found materials” jewelry-making class. I cut

I was trying to create the oil slick effect on black paper by floating drops of clear nail polish on water and lifting the paper up through it. It’s looking better as it’s drying, but for the project I want

Boy, the day got completely away from me. I’m going to have to count homemade pizza as my thing today. This one is pepperoni. There’s another one in the oven that has chorizo, red bell pepper, onion, mushrooms and black

Pantone’s “Color of the Year” for 2013 is emerald. Since I do sell my work, I like to at least make an effort to come up with pieces that incorporate fashion color trends. The problem comes when the fashion colors

Day 1 – Nuno felted brooch

The first picture is the “before.” It’s a small piece of nuno felting I made last week. It was rather hastily done and felt is kind of globby. I experimented with beading into the felt.

Y’all are probably thinking, “Enough with the lizards already!” I had some lizard shawl pins made up, and I wanted to see if I could incorporate the beadweaving without taking the whole thing apart. Turns out, I can! I snipped

Day 27 – Start of another pendant

Here’s a start on another pendant. I kind of set some inventory goals for myself before my show season starts. Even though I’ve got a couple of months, I still need to get a lot of beading done!
