Thing 22

In Mexico on King’s Day, everyone has Rosca de Reyas which is a sweet bread in a big circle sort of like Mardi Gras king’s cake. In spite of the mountains of packages at every store in sight, I made my own and invited friends to share. But the rule is that inside the cake is one or more little plastic babies representing the baby Jesus and if you get the baby in your piece, you must make tamales on February 2nd. We are late but my friend Jan got the baby in the first slice of cake so today I made masa from scratch and now we are making tamales for dinner at her house.
