Day 29: Rust-Dyed Roving

Today I dyed some wool/silk blend roving with a rusty old railroad spike. I won’t know how it turns out until tomorrow!

  1. hi m. what do you mean by roving? Were you roving around while you dyed the yarn?

  2. M. Keli Vidrine

Hi! This was fiber that I dyed before spinning it into yarn. “Roving” is the name of one type of fiber preparation; it looks like a thick snake of not-yet-spun fiber. Another example of how you can buy fiber is as a “batt” which is a big square-ish or rectangular sheet of not-yet-spun fiber.
