Day 18 – Beaded Bezel

I really hate doing open-backed beaded bezels. I probably wouldn’t hate them so much if I worked with things that were regular in shape, but these pieces of glass never are. Nonetheless, this one cried out for an open-backed bezel. It’s a piece of carnival glass brokenware — cobalt blue, and the iridescence is silvery turquoise. I wanted to showcase as much of the glass as possible. It was hard to bezel, because the piece is curved and the edge is not uniform in thickness. So, after much cussing and saying “To hell with this!” about five times, I finally got it bezeled. Then I did a little freeform embellishment around the edge.

About bebopbeads

I fell in love with freeform beading after many years of dabbling with all manner of media. My fascination with seed beads goes back to my childhood. My mom, a Cub Scout den mother, started me on a bead loom when I was about 8, so coming back to seed beads was like coming home. You can find more of my work at http://bebopbeads.artfire.com
