We Want Images!
We want images on the front page! We need you to assign one of your post-images as the featured image. Then all is good. Else you’ll be featured text-only.
*Note: As this is a wordpress.com housed blog, we don’t have unlimited space. Please keep your image-uploads at a reasonable filesize.
We Want Tags!
Please tag your posts according to subject, processes, materials used, thoughts, feelings, .. This will make it easier to find similar items.
Your User Profile!
If you click directly on a little gravatar icon, it’ll show all the posts this user has contributed. If you hoover over the gravatar, it’ll show more and you can go to the user’s profile on gravatar.com. Share more information about yourself, upload your own image, etc. – either through WordPress>Dashboard>Users>MyProfile or on gravatar.com.

Thing-a-Day Forever 
Gosh – so not used to WordPress and completely unprepared for projects!!! :-/
I know you already have more than enough to manage, but if somehow you get around to it…
I wrote a test post (http://thingaday2012.wordpress.com/2012/01/31/210/) used the Featured Image widget; I see the image on the post, but I don’t see it on the front page… p.s. I included the image via link
– should it work linked or do I really need to upload the image? (I was trying to help the space issue)
– do I need to resize or maybe am I using the wrong widget?
– Is there a way to include that featured image via post by mail or will we need edit for featured images later?
I think I just answered one of my questions, so posting here in case anyone else wants to know… you HAVE to upload the image to the site in order to select the “Featured Image” option.

bubblemuch, I am not used to the WordPress format either, so I will be stumbling my way around the first few days, no doubt.
I am very bad with computers, so I’m sure I will embarrass myself.

Hello drocks2, you need to post from the thingaday2012 blog to see your posts here. If you post on your own, other wordpress.com, it won’t show up on this one.
I guess I thought I was. step by step I go up to my name in the upper right corner, drop down box comes up, I click on thing a day, another box comes up to the left and I choose post a new message….please walk me through it….if this isn’t right.
drocks 2, Yes. Go to your name > upper right corner > drop down box > roll over to thing-a-day 2012 > another box appears > Go to New Post and click. You should be all set from there! Make sure you remember to publish your post once it’s ready.
Will I still be able to link my posts to facebook this year?
The setup we have here (free multi-user wordpress.com blog) doesn’t allow users to easily publicize their posts onto their facebook. You will have to manually share your posts on your facebook wall.

How do I see all the other posts besides front page? last tiime you could scroll thru apges and see lots of the days work… now just the front page?
The front page displays the 40 most recent posts. Once we hit 40 posts (soon) additional pages will be added automatically.
RW. Try using the Calendar view to see all the post by dates! Should be a nicer way to see what we collectively are making on a daily basis.
Is it not possible to begin today? I was only introduced to the site last night, and I really want to post!! Help!

I have tried repeatedly to post my image to the front page and it does not work. I do not like WordPress at all! I was so looking forward to TAD but due to this I may drop out. Also do not care for the new format. Why did we leave Posterous?
It took me a while to get it right. Once you have uploaded your image go to your Gallery scroll to the bottom and choose “featured image,” it is next to delete.
Okay, after the fifth time it finally worked. sigh.
I’m really confused on how to operate this site. Any tips or tricks anyone? I was really looking forward to this whole concept, but my frustrations are so high.. I don’t know if I can manage to monkey with going nowhere any longer…
@Thing-a-day: I can hack your WordPress theme so it’ll automatically display the first image in a post without having to set it as featured. We could make it so if there is a featured image set, it’ll use that, otherwise default to the first image within the post. It’s not super difficult. I did it for another site. Let me know. :)

I thought I had registered on Feb 2 and when I wanted to post the things I have made until today, realized that apparently my registration wasn’t succesfull! So I have all those things here I would like to share with you but cannot and that feels quite frustrating.

Last year there were some really great instructions for optiminzing images so that the file sizes weren’t huge. I thought I’d saved the links to the optimizer site, but apparently I did not. Anyone else remember?
Use Flickr http://flickr.com for your images. It will resize them for you. It will also generate code for you to embed your pictures into posts. If you are on a Mac, I highly recommend Ecto software for posting http://illuminex.com/ecto/ — that will also resize your images, tag your posts and will save lots of efforts.
Hello Admins! Can we use Auto Featured Image plugin https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/auto-featured-image/ or something similar for this installation?
That creates featured image from the first image in a post, if there is nothing setup manually.
that would be a great idea, but the plugin only works for wordpress.org self-hosted blogs. not wordpress.com blogs.
